Day three at Royal Ascot hosts the feature race of the week, the Gold Cup, the event's oldest surviving race.

History was made in 2013 when Estimate won the Gold Cup, making The Queen the first reigning monarch to own a winner in the race’s 212-year history.

Stradivarius is favourite to retain his title for jockey Frankie Dettori and trainer John Gosden, although it faces a much stronger field than the one it enjoyed 12 months ago. Follow live updates in the blog below:

We go again!

O’Brien has had three consecutive beaten favourites in this race but his leading contender, Cape Of Good Hope, is priced behind favourite Fox ChairmanThe Andrew Balding-trained three-year-old is untested at the top level and is not the best value in a crowded field.

What the trainers say...

O’Brien on Cape Of Good Hope and Old Glory: “We were very happy with how Cape Of Good Hope ran in the French Derby and he wasn't beaten all that far into fourth. He hasn't done a lot since going to France but seems in good form.

“Old Glory only ran the other day at the Curragh when just beaten in a tight finish. Like Cape Of Good Hope he hasn't done a lot since but we think this sort of race should suit him.”

Roger Varian on Roseman: “He’s in good form and the form of his last race took a big boost on the opening day at Ascot. We don’t have the best of draws but I’m really pleased with how the horse is.”

The Queen's chances

The Queen won the feature race six years ago today but does not have a runner in the Gold Cup this afternoon.

She will be cheering on Eightsome Reel in the 3:05 Hampton Court Stakes.
