Motor Racing: Mansell may test Williams
NIGEL MANSELL has revived his negotiations to race for Williams-Renault at the French Grand Prix on Sunday week, according to sources in France, writes Derick Allsop from Le Mans.
Reports suggest the former world champion may visit Williams's factory at Didcot, Oxfordshire, today and test the FW 16 at a revised Silverstone circuit tomorrow.
Complications have kept the deal on hold for the past week, much to the frustration of Mansell, who arrived in England last Monday. Williams and their partners, Renault and Elf, had to agree terms with the 40-year-old Briton, his IndyCar team, Newman-Haas, and their associates, Ford and Texaco.
All parties may now, however, have been satisfied. If that is confirmed, Mansell will join Williams for a third time. He left them after winning the 1992 championship and failing to agree a new contract.
Renault have been endeavouring to secure the IndyCar champion's services for the French Grand Prix and the final races of the season.
