Motor racing: Mansell not quick enough
Nigel Mansell went out late in the qualifying session for a desperate attempt to take pole position for today's Milwaukee Mile but the best he could do was a lap four-tenths of a second slower than the Brazilian Raul Boesel, writes Toni Toomey. In a tight session only half a second covered the top 10 qualifiers, which did not include Al Unser Jnr. He maintained something of a tradition for Indianapolis 500 winners by lapping the one-mile circuit at the Wisconsin State Fairgrounds well off the pace.
