BTCC: Matt Neal leads home Honda one-two at Donington Park after Mat Jackson and Rob Collard claim victories

Neal takes a five-point championship lead into the next round at Thruxton

Rob Collard, Mat Jackson and Matt Neal claimed race wins in the latest rounds of the British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park.

Jackson muscled his way past the front row starters to win the opener ahead of British rivals Josh Cook and Tom Ingram.

And the Motorbase Performance driver led for much of race two before coming up just short in his quest to make it a double success.

Jackson led from the start but behind him Collard moved up from sixth on the grid then squeezed through to snatch the lead.

Collard pulled away with Jackson forced to settle for second place and Ireland's Aron Smith finishing third in his BKR.

Collard said: "The car is feeling so sharp at the moment. I'm pleased we were able to come here and prove to everyone we're winners."

In the final race of the meeting, Neal led home a Honda Yuasa Racing one-two to become the sixth different race winner in as many rounds this season. West Surrey Racing’s Sam Tordoff led from the start with team-mate Jack Goff for company, but with the BMW’s struggling on the soft tyres the Honda pair of Neal and Gordon Shedden were able to hunt them down and pass with ease before taking the chequered flag line-astern.

It means that Neal takes a slender five-point lead in the drivers’ standing into the next round event at Thruxton on 7/8 May over Shedden with Goff and Collard 12 and 14 points behind respectively.
