The news overshadowed the first day of racing at the TT this year, and led to a number of tributes from the racing community including Carl Fogarty, John McGuinness and Peter Hickman.
To help support Mathison’s wife, Natalie, and their daughter Daisy, a GoFundMe page has been set up by Simon Bond with the aim of raising £20,000.
The page has already raised more than £13,000 at time of writing, with the motorcycling community pulling together after the latest loss of one of its own at the TT.

Mathison’s passing was the 259th time a rider died on the Snaefell Mountain Course, leaving the paddock shocked at the news as the Penz13.com BMW rider was a much-loved member of the road racing circuit.
Three-time TT winner and four-time World Superbike champion Fogarty tweeted: “Sad to hear of the death of Daley Mathison in today’s tt superbike race. Thoughts are with family and friends.”
Hickman, who won the red-flagged Superbike race as a result of the crash, said: “Mixed emotions from today. Bikes and team been great as always. Happy but sad. RIP Daley, you will be missed. Thoughts with Natalie, Daisy and your whole family.”
Twenty-three-time TT winner McGuinness added: “Couldn’t find the words, but sat at table 19 the number of this lads last race. Talented, stylish, coming good, loving life, racing, being a dad. RIP @DaleyMathison you will be sadly missed.”
Perhaps the most touching tribute of all came from Steve Mercer, who continues to recover from injuries suffered at last year’s TT, as he revealed the role that Mathison played in helping to save his life.
“I didn’t really know how to write it and also didn’t want to talk about myself when it should all be about Daley and his family right now,” Mercer said in response to a message about his accident from fellow rider Martin Jessopp.
“He massively helped save my life. He was first over the fence and undone my helmet strap as it was strangling me and also helped stop me bleeding to death as when the car hit me it pretty well took my leg off. I’ll be forever grateful for what he done. Thank you Daley. RIP.”
