Durham have signed the 30-year-old Lancashire batsman Nick Speak on a three-year contract.

Martin Speight is to decide on his future at the end of the month after receiving an improved offer from Sussex. The 29-year-old is also waiting for an approach from Durham, who are understood to be keen to sign him as a full-time wicketkeeper.

Somerset have broken with an 82-year-old tradition by deciding to abandon their Weston-super-Mare festival next season, citing financial reasons. The home game against Kent, which had been scheduled for the festival, will now take place at Taunton.
