Milan Cvirk, a midfielder with the Slovak champions Kosice, died in a car crash on Tuesday, while the club's striker Albert Rusnak, who was driving, suffered complex fractures to both legs. Rusnak played as a substitute against Manchester United in last week's Champions' League match at Old Trafford, while Cvirk remained on the bench.

Grasshopper Zurich have named the former Swiss national team coach, Rolf Fringer, as their new coach, to replace Christian Gross, who is now at Tottenham Hotspur.

Italy's referees will delay the start of matches this weekend by 15 minutes in their first attempt at industrial action, as a protest about attacks on them in the media, and a lack of support from Italian football authorities.
