The eagerly-anticipated duel between Australia's David Campese and Gloucester's Frenchman Philippe Saint-Andre failed to materialise in yesterday's opening European Conference tie at Kingsholm.
Campese was ineffective for most of the match and missed two kicks, while Saint-Andre retired injured at half-time - having scored a try - without once coming into contact with his old adversary.
The Gloucester captain Pete Glanville stole the limelight with a hat- trick of tries - his last touchdown being a stunning effort as the blond flanker outpaced the Padova backs over 30 metres to chase down a kick- on.
