David Graveney, who has withdrawn from the race to succeed Raymond Illingworth as chairman of the England selectors, yesterday gave his backing to his co-selector Graham Gooch and John Barclay, who managed England's disastrous tour of South Africa last winter. Graveney said: "The only two guys who would be a great asset to the international team as chairman of selectors are Goochie and John Barclay."

India yesterday recalled the middle-order batsman Sanjay Manjrekar to replace the injured Navjot Sidhu in their squad for the Titan Cup final at Bombay's Wankhede Stadium tomorrow.
