OLYMPICS / Barcelona 1992: Lewis ready for relay: Olympic Round-up
CARL LEWIS is likely to run for the United States in the 4 x 100 metres relay at some point in the Games, the relay captain, Dennis Mitchell, said yesterday.
Lewis, who finished only sixth in the Olympic trials, trained with the squad yesterday and Mitchell said afterwards: 'We have been training with Carl and working out combinations with him and he is part of the relay set-up.'
There was good news for Britain's world champion 4 x 400m squad as the Americans' training session dissolved into an acrimonious shouting match between coaches and athletes demanding to know who was actually going to run. The answer, which may not be quite such good news for Akabusi and Co, is three 400m specialists, Quincy Watts, Danny Everett and Steve Lewis, and the world 200m champion, Michael Johnson.
