OLYMPICS / Barcelona 1992: Unknowns' triumph: Rifle Shooting
On 26 July when most competitors were still building up to competition, Yeo Kab-soon captured the first gold medal of the Games in the women's air rifle for South Korea. It was not a novel experience for the nation which had hosted the Olympics four years ago, but by the time the Games closed several less familiar names appeared on the role of honour.
Latvia won three medals, as did Croatia, while Slovenia, Lithuania and Estonia took home two each. Namibia also collected two, matching the returning South Africa's haul. And which nation took the final gold of the Games? South Korea, completing the circle through Hwang Young-cho.
