GORAN IVANISEVIC may have guaranteed Croatia its first-ever Olympic medals in the tennis, but his basketball compatriots are not far behind. They stand just one game away from a definite place on the podium after crushing Australia 98-65 in the first quarter-final.

They avoid the United States' 'dream team' (the only team to beat them in the qualifying tournament) in the semi-final. Instead, they meet the Unified Team, who beat Germany 83-76. Lithuania beat Brazil 114-96 with a late surge after trailing 80-69 with nine minutes left while the US trounced Puerto Rico 115-77.
