Back to Beijing to conclude our round-up of moments. As well as opening ceremonies, it now appears necessary to have a closing one as well. To mark the end of the Beijing Games they handed over a small segment of time to London organisers to indicate the transition of the Games to Britain. And in doing so London almost single-handedly ruined what had been a spectacular event. It involved David Beckham kicking balls randomly into the crowd, some people with umbrellas (as if we needed to bring attention to the rubbish weather in England) and worst of all, Boris Johnson. As the London Mayor attempted to swing an oversized flag a collective shudder of embarrassment could be felt rippling across the country. Bring on Friday...
