When is it?

The 4x100m women’s relay final will be held on Friday 19 August 2016.

What time will it be on?

The race will start at around 2.15am Saturday 20 August BST (10.15pm local time in Rio).

Where can I watch it live?

BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Four, the BBC red button and the BBC Sport website will have live coverage of all events at Rio 2016.

Who are the contenders?

The US and Jamaica stood the podium for the 4x100m women’s relay at the 2012 Olympics, and Jamaica’s competitors especially will be looking to further their dominance. However, both teams may end up facing off against some of our own…

Any British hopes?

The Team GB four, Asha Philip, Desiree Henry, Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita, recently cruised their way to a national record at the Anniversary Games and are looking to give the titans of the US and Jamaica a real run for their money.

Having tragically been kicked off lottery funding and subsequently missing the 2012 Games in London, the girls are finally set to rightfully take their place in Olympic history. Dina Asher-Smith has shot to prominence, having gone from carrying athletes’ kit at the 2012 Olympics to the fastest woman in Britain over 100m and 200m.

Remember when…

Despite having a history of relay failures, the US team smashed the previous world record time of 41.37 seconds, set by the East German team over 25 years previously.

The final handoff to Carmelita Jeter saw her hurtle towards the finish line, who pointed in amazement at the clock just before crossing the finish line and into the history books.
