The participation in next weekend's Classics of Jural and Sri Pekan, both unraced this season, is in the balance.

Sri Pekan, Paul Cole's main candidate from three declared for the 2,000 Guineas, pulled a muscle on Friday. "We have got him sound," Cole said yesterday, "and he has gone for a trot this morning. I would say that his chances of running are about 50-50." A decision on his participation may come on Wednesday.

Jural, Mark Johnston's 1,000 Guineas candidate who disappointed in a gallop at Ripon racecourse last Sunday, was due to work in a trial for Newmarket yesterday. However, Johnston explained: "Her galloping companion was injured in the horsebox and we didn't think we would learn anything working her on her own. She will probably work tomorrow instead."
