Platinum sparkles for Japanese buyers
Japanese demand for platinum jewellery rose to a record 1.29 million ounces last year, according to Johnson Matthey's annual review. Low- cost items, rather than the pounds 60,000 diamond-encrusted platinum watch above, were in greatest demand. Lower industrial demand saw total world consumption fall 6 per cent to 3.8 million ounces.
