Gwen Torrence and Michael Johnson affirmed their status as America's leading sprinters with convincing wins at the USA Mobil Indoor Track and Field Championships, in Atlanta on Saturday, the final event of the grand prix. Portugal's Joaquim Pinheiro won the Biwako Mainichi Marathon in Japan in a course record time of 2hr 9min 32sec yesterday. The previous best was 2:10:49 set by Yuji Nakamura, of Japan, last year.
