Q. Hull's Steve Craven was sent off in the fifth minute of his side's rugby league match against Batley last season. Is this a record?

A. Ben Rowe was preparing to come on as a substitute for Exeter City away at Fulham in the 1990-91 season. He was warming up alongside a linesman when Fulham scored what proved to be the only goal of the game. Rowe, in a good position to judge, thought the scorer was offside, a view widely shared at the ground. Rowe told the linesman, quite possibly for which he was dismissed by the referee. He had thus achieved the rare feat of being sent off before he came on. - Andrew Long, Hagley
