Racing: Amateur hurt

AMATEUR rider John Carden was seriously ill yesterday after a crashing fall at Southwell's Saturday evening meeting. The 57-year-old permit holder suffered head injuries when his King of Shadows fell in the last race. Carden, a veteran of five Grand Nationals, was described as 'poorly' by the Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham.
