VICTOR CHANDLER, the bookmaking firm which sponsors the feature chase of tomorrow's racing, has hedged its bets over the itinerant event by opening a book on where the race will take place.

The two-mile Victor Chandler Handicap Chase, for which Waterloo Boy heads the weights, now looks likely to take place at its original venue of Ascot, after the course received a more favourable assessment yesterday. Another inspection takes place early this morning. The race could still be switched to Warwick if the weather, which claimed Ascot's fixture today, worsens again. A decision would have to be made by noon today.

The sponsors said: 'Ascot looks the favourite again. We go 2-5 Ascot, 5-2 Warwick, 6-1 no race at all.'
