CHELTENHAM

2.00: Katarino likes soft ground, so the likely good going this afternoon may well count againstthe ante-post favourite. Among the Irish contingent, there seems to be a lack of confidence in the Afarad camp, but Knife Edge is the tough type needed for this contest. Best of the raiders looks to be BALLA SOLA, whose win came on heavy ground but is said to be far better on a sounder surface. If so, he must have an excellent chance.

2.35: Deano's Beeno will make this a searching test. Lady Rebecca would have been the selection, but she was the subject of an injury scare in the build up to this race. LE COUDRAY could well prove a champion stayer and justify the heavy support for him over the past two weeks. The drying ground will not bother him.

3.15: The shrewd Easterby yard has never lost faith in the class of SIMPLY DASHING.

Rain has frequently prevented this fast-ground type from justifying stable confidence. If the turf continues to dry out, Lorcan Wyer's mount must be the value bet. The stamina-laden Go Ballistic is another rank outsider who could sneak a place at extravagant odds if the better-fancied runners falter on the long climb to the winning post. Florida Pearl is a short price for a horse who fell on his penultimate outing and is unproven at the trip, while Teeton Mill's only defeat over fences was here, an ill-omen. Blinkered-first-time See More Business is working well.

3.55: CASTLE MANE, unbeaten in six point-to-points, created a favourable impression when scoring a bloodless victory on his hunter chase debut at Warwick. In an open year, he has the scope to outclass some ordinary- looking rivals. Stag Fight and Forest Fountain are interesting outsiders.
