Racing: For the Notebook: A weekly list of horses to follow:
FOREVER SHINEING: divided First Avenue and Ealing Court, who have placings behind the likes of Thetford Forest and Yukon Gold to their name, when second in a novice hurdle at Windsor on Wednesday. This was a big improvement on her tailed-off debut behind Mysilv and Ground Nut and she can take a similar race. (S Mellor)
L'ETAT C'EST MOI: made light of a seven-month lay-off when winning a maiden at Wolverhampton on Saturday night. Ran in Royal Ascot's Chesham Stakes last summer and her trainer's record on the all-weather tracks suggests she may prove good enough to see off most opponents at this level. (Lord Huntingdon)
NORNAX LAD: stepped up on his all-weather debut fourth to take a 13-furlong handicap at Lingfield on Saturday. This ex-Irish horse showed progressive form on fast ground over hurdles last season and may have more improvement in him on the level as well. Should also be noted if sent jumping again once the ground dries out. (M Meade)
RAKAIA RIVER: dug deep to score on his chasing debut at Windsor on Wednesday, in a time comparable to that taken by the seasoned handicapper Ghofar later in the afternoon. Has been lightly raced over the smaller obstacles and should be a useful addition to his trainer's good team of novices in his preferred medium of fences. (T Forster)
