THE betting public seem to be more impressed than the bookmakers by Gulland's narrow win in Tuesday's Chester Vase. Having eased the Geoff Wragg-trained colt to 10-1 for the Derby on 6 June, William Hill and Coral were forced to cut his price to 8-1 yesterday after laying him continuously throughout the morning.

DERBY (Epsom, 6 June): Coral: 8-1 Border Arrow, Gulland (from 10-1), 12-1 City Honours, Xaar, Haami, 14-1 Greek Dance, 16-1 Capri, Dr Fong, Fleetwood, 20-1 Saratoga Springs, 25-1 Croco Rouge, Courteous, Central Park, Mutamam, Teapot Row, 33-1 Bar. Others 11-4 (with a run) Cape Verdi, 7-2 (with a run) Second Empire.
