2.05: FILFILAH will be all the better for her reappearance sixth in a huge field at Newmarket at the beginning of the month. Richard Hills rode Volley when the mare barged her way through to finish first over a mile at Goodwood last week. She was rightly disqualified and placed fourth. It will be interesting to see how she fares today, with Michael Hills taking over from his brother. First Village, from a stable on top of its form, must be feared.

2.35: PERSIAN PUNCH ran well with a totally inadequate test of stamina in the Yorkshire Cup last time and should confirm Sagaro Stakes placings with Samraan. Kayf Tara is clearly a most intriguing prospect from the Godolphin string. This lightly-raced four-year-old won readily at Haydock a fortnight back. Aiming rather high, to say the least, is Purple Lace, third in a modest National Hunt ''bumper'' race at Hereford earlier this month. This six-year-old mare is being sent out to take on some of the top stayers on her Flat debut.

3.10: ELNADIM sets out his claims to be this year's champion sprinter. He did nothing wrong on his reappearance when giving weight away to Bollin Joanne over six furlongs and can win this with authority. Lack of a run this term is just one of the several doubts concerning Compton Place, who has to concede the selection 3lb.

3.45: Labeq is likely to be a warm order after a promising second at Kempton last time. Peter Walwyn has made a quiet start to the new season, however, and better value may lie with the James Eustace-trained REFUSE TO LOSE, a consistent four-year-old who appears leniently treated on his all-weather form. Strazo proved an expensive failure for favourite backers when only fifth of six runners at Newmarket nine days ago.
