NEWMARKET

2.05: The unbeaten FAHAL showed commendable resolution when getting up to win a Yarmouth maiden, and he had yesterday's July Stakes winner Fallow a length back in third that day. He has won again since, and should have too much class for the consistent but exposed filly, The Jotter.

2.35: Shonara's Way was a very easy winner at Chepstow but has encountered only soft ground, while Henry Cecil will hope to have the improving Red Route back on a winning track after finishing second in the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot. SUMMIT was another creditable Royal Ascot performer, a close up third in the Queen's Vase, and may just come out on top.

3.05: The prominent showings of Winter Coat, Porphyrios, Ham N'Eggs and Cameron Highland in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot are rather beguiling, but the consistency of SAMBA SHARPLY on less glamorous stages gives him the vote. He is a 14-1 shot with William Hill at morning odds. Of the Ascot quartet, Porphyrios, who had a moderate draw, may come out best.

3.40: There is no evidence to suggest that Lochsong has improved since last autumn when she was beaten by CATRAIL at Haydock. The sixth furlong found out the mare there and is likely to prove her undoing again today. Only 100- 30 with Ladbrokes, the selection is a 9-2 shot with William Hill. Barathea, despite finishing second in last year's 2,000 Guineas, probably needs to improve to figure. So does Owington, but he is more likely to progress sufficiently than the year older Luca Cumani runner.

4.10: KAYVEE, who did exceptionally well to finish fifth in the Royal Hunt Cup from a bad draw, was not disgraced at Newcastle subsequently and looks good value at the 12-1 on offer this morning.
