Rosenborg will face Blackburn at Ewood Park in two weeks' time with their chance of reaching the European Cup quarter-finals still alive. The Norwegians thrashed Legia Warsaw 4-0 in Trondheim last night to close to within a point of the Poles, who are second in Group B with only a match against Spartak Moscow to come.

Rosenborg shared the goals around, with Roar Strand, Harald Brattbakk, Jahn Ivar Jakobsen and Vegard Heggem getting one each.

Ajax left the Bernabeu stadium to a standing ovation after securing their quarter-final place by inflicting a 2-0 home defeat on Real Madrid in Group D.
