Papua New Guinea, narrowly beaten by Great Britain in a Test match at the weekend, were edged out 24-22 by the New Zealand Lion Reds in the opening match of their New Zealand tour.

Warrington have signed three Auckland Warriors players. Full-back or centre Nigel Vagana, prop Dallas Mead and back rower Tony Tatupu, who have agreed two-year deals, will arrive at Wilderspool next month. Wigan's ex-Test hooker Martin Dermott has also been signed.
