Rugby League: Paul at the head of procession

HENRY PAUL, who is leaving Wigan at the end of the season, provided a timely reminder of his skills with a man-of-the-match performance in the Warriors' 58-6 win over Hull.

The Kiwi stand-off scored two of his side's 12 tries as Wigan re-opened a two-point lead over Leeds at the top of Super League. Just under 8,000 - the lowest attendance of the season at Central Park - watched Steve Prescott kick the Sharks into a 2-0 lead before conceding the first try to Paul.

Jason Robinson and Lee Gilmour, pondering the offer of a two-year extension to his contract, also both touched down twice and Gary Connolly grabbed his 100th try for the club as the game turned into a procession.

The Sharks winger, Filli Seru, nipped in for a consolation try but it could have been even worse for Hull as the Wigan captain, Andy Farrell, had an unusually bad day with the boot, collecting only five goals from 12 attempts.

Warrington celebrated the 100th anniversary of their Wilderspool Stadium with a 36-8 win over the bottom club Huddersfield, who are still looking for their first win since June.

Warrington got off to a dream start, taking advantage of the 10th-minute sin-binning of James Bunyan for a professional foul, by grabbing tries through Lee Briers and Mark Forster.

Brad Davis and Danny Orr scored two tries apiece and kicked five goals between them in Castleford's 30-12 win over Salford.
