Rugby League: Video replay for sent-off Jackson
Officials yesterday studied a video in an attempt to decide whether Tuesday night's dismissal of Michael Jackson at Halifax was a case of mistaken identity.
The forward was shown the red card by the referee Stuart Cummings for an alleged trip on Wigan's Mick Cassidy in the Super League match, which Halifax lost 50-4. However, the errant player was understood to be the Halifax full-back, Asa Amone, who could be called before the Rugby League disciplinary committee in place of Jackson.
The referees' chief, Greg McCallum, said he had called for a video of the incident. "If Michael Jackson is cleared, the player who committed the alleged foul would be automatically referred to the disciplinary committee," he said.
The First Division leaders, Featherstone Rovers, have signed the utility back Neil Summers from Bradford Bulls for an undisclosed fee. Summers, 27, has signed an 18-month contract.
Their former captain Colin Armstrong, 33, is to stay at Workington Town at least until the end of the season.
