Rugby round-up: Tries by Naqelevuki and Jess help Chiefs sting Wasps in LV Cup

Exeter Chiefs carried their strong Aviva Premiership form into the LV Cup yesterday, beating London Wasps 29-6 at Sandy Park. Sireli Naqelevuki and Matt Jess scored Exeter's tries and Ignacio Mieres kicked two conversions and five penalties. Elliot Daly kicked two conversions for Wasps.

The Scarlets thumped Leeds Carnegie 52-13 in a lunchtime kick-off, scoring 45 unanswered points after falling behind to the Premiership's bottom side early on. The Samoan flanker Jonny Fa'amatuainu scored three of the Welsh region's seven tries.

The Scarlets coach, Nigel Davies, said: "I was very, very pleased. We probably could argue that we could have been more clinical but a lot of boys haven't played that much together. Jonny was superb."

The Leeds coach, Neil Back, said: "I think we were disappointed particularly with our game management. We hada lot of kids out there and they did manfully well. I think a fair result would have been something like 38-20."

Scott Williams (twice), Daniel Newton and Aaron Shingler also scored tries for the Scarlets. Newton kicked four conversions and a penalty and Shingler kicked three conversions. The Wales scrum-half Warren Fury scored Leeds's try and Christian Lewis-Pratt kicked eight points.

In the Championship, Rotherham Titans beat Moseley 28-17. There are four matches this afternoon, including an intriguing visit by the leaders, Worcester, to fourth-placed and the ambitious London Welsh.

Three players pulled out of the France squad yesterday. The Toulouse hooker William Servat, Stade Français lock Pascal Papé and the Racing Métro fly-half Jonathan Wisniewski are all injured. They have been replaced by Racing's Benjamin Noirot, Jérôme Thion of Biarritz and Toulouse's David Skrela.

The France coach, Marc Lièvremont, said: "Of course, we are disappointed but this wave of withdrawals will give us the opportunity to test more players and we still have enough leaders and a well structured squad."

France play Fiji on Saturday, Argentina the week after and Australia on the final weekend of the autumn window.
