Danny Cipriani has been left out of England's 31-man World Cup squad, it has been reported.

The 27-year-old fly-half has failed to make coach Stuart Lancaster's squad despite scoring a try in the 25-20 defeat by France in Paris on Saturday night.

Lancaster is due to announce his squad at 12.45pm GMT on Thursday and he is likely to play his first-choice team in the final warm-up match against Ireland on 5 September.

It has been reported that Cipriani received personal confirmation from Lancaster that he would be missing the cut.

Lancaster's 39-man squad will be cut down to 31 on Thursday, leaving Cipriani plus seven others to miss out.

Writing on his Facebook page on Wednesday morning to thank fans for their support ahead of Thursday's announcement, and not revealing whether he knew his fate, Cipriani said:

"Can't tell you how much the support means to me. We all go through our journey in life and learn lessons. I know I've made mistakes some criticised rightly or wrongly. Just a quick thanx to all the nice messages. Really appreciate it."

In response to a comment from a user asking if he already knew whether he was in the squad, he answered: "Won't find out till this evening/tomorrow morning. Just a message to say thank you for the support."
