Sailing: Miller enjoys a double: Radio daze mars Cowes Week

ANOTHER crackerjack performance by the Scotsman, Keith Miller, brought a double Cowes Week reward yesterday when he won the re-sailed Britannia Cup and the normal Friday prize, the Rocking Chair Trophy, writes Stuart Alexander from Cowes.

Crackerjack is a production Swan 46 and enjoys a useful handicap, which was enough to push David Best's 40- footer, Sidewinder, into second place and so deny the Irishman, who already has the Queen's Cup and New York Yacht Club Cup, his third major trophy of the week. In the battle of the 50-footers, Tony Pratt's Mandrake had the better of Graham Walker's Indulgence and took third place.

Less happy were the Mumm 36 class, where Vasco Vascoretto sailed Vaporetto Polti to victory yesterday. His tactician, Torben Grael, was less than impressed that Thursday's race was declared null and void because one course was officially radioed to the fleet on VHF and a different one officially broadcast on medium-wave radio.
