STEVE CRAM came close to postponing his South African debut yesterday, but defied a hamstring injury to finish seventh in a 3,000 metres race in Durban, clocking 8min 6.06sec. Cram hopes to be fit to tackle a mile in Mosselbaai on Monday and a 5,000m in Cape Town next Thursday.

THE 1994 Goodwill Games between Russia and the United States will go ahead in St Petersburg despite huge losses made by the previous two, in 1986 and 1990, and the host country's worsening economic plight, according to the American organisers, the Turner Broadcasting System.
