PAKISTAN, the world champions, were beaten by six wickets by a Rest of the World XI on Sunday at the Skydome stadium in Tokyo. Pakistan's Mudassar Nazar scored 149 not out. Brian Lara scored 105 for the Rest of the World.

GARY LINEKER, the former England football captain, scored 103 for Cross Arrows at Lord's yesterday, but his side lost to the Stock Exchange by five wickets.

YORKSHIRE and Durham have approached Warwickshire with a view to signing the all-rounder Paul Smith, who said yesterday he was 'unhappy' at being left out of several matches last season and becomes a free agent on 1 January.
