WITH 500 miles to go to the finish of the first leg in Rio de Janeiro, Richard Tudor and British Steel II have stretched their lead in the British Steel Round-the-World race to 31 miles over Paul Jeffes in Interspray, with Adrian Donovan in Heath Insured another 42 miles astern. These three are well clear of all the other seven boats, the last of which, Commercial Union (Will Sutherland), is still struggling to free itself from the grip of the doldrums and is over 1,300 miles astern of the leader.
