GEMMA HAY produced a record-breaking performance to win the junior 100 metres butterfly title in the English schools' championships at Wolverhampton yesterday. Hay, from Cleckheaton, twice broke the record on her way to the title. In the heats, she clipped three-hundredths of a second off the four-year-old record with a time of 1min 06.18sec. In the final, she then had a runaway victory with a time of 1:05.33, three and a half seconds ahead of second-placed Sarah Chandler, of Boreham Wood. Adam Ruckwood, the 18-year- old Olympic swimmer from Halesowen, collected the senior 100m backstroke title with a time of 57.41sec, slicing 1,100th of a second off the old record established last year by Steven Mellor.
