PETE SAMPRAS, the only American left in the tournament, overcame Petr Korda, of Czechoslovakia, in three sets to reach the semi-finals of the Stockholm Open. Sampras, ranked No 2 in the world and seeded third in the tournament, won the first quarter-final 7-6, 5-7, 6-3. 'Hopefully, I will make my first Stockholm final,' Sampras said. Earlier, the top-seeded Australian pair of Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde beat another Australian, John Fitzgerald and Sweden's Anders Jarryd 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 in the doubles semi-final.
