Q. What was the shortest margin of victory for the County Championship title?

A. There have been two years when Glamorgan played its part in narrow finishes. In 1927, Nottinghamshire went into the last day at Swansea needing only to draw to win the title. After rain, they were bowled out and shared the title with Lancashire.

In 1974, Hampshire, the champions, led the table throughout the season. They went to Cardiff in mid-August and lost by five wickets. The teams met again at Southampton but rain ruined the second day and Hampshire were two wickets short of victory at the close of the match. In their penultimate game at Bournemouth, Hampshire were ahead at the close of a sunny second day. Rain prevented any play on the final day. Hampshire's final game of the season was against Yorkshire, but not a ball was bowled because of rain.
