Portugal's 1500m world champion, Carla Sacramento, clocked the fastest time in the world this year last night at a meeting in Barcelona. She eased well clear to record a time of 4min 01.93sec.

Mark Sesay, of Leeds, and Belgrave's Jason Lobo will be attempting to gain the 800 metre World Championship qualifying mark at the LTS Games in Thurrock tomorrow. The race is a rematch of last weekend's AAA Championships final where Sesay beat Lobo into second place. Although both runners beat Curtis Robb - who finished fourth in the 1993 World Championships - the Liverpudlian has been selected for Seville as he previously achieved the qualifying time of 1min 46.30sec.
