Ian Moores, the former Tottenham, Stoke, Leyton Orient and Bolton centre- forward, has died at the age of 43. He had been suffering from cancer.

Hugh McCann, the former Hearts assistant manager, has been appointed caretaker manager of East Stirlingshire, following the resignation of John Brownlie, the former Newcastle and Scotland full-back.

Rangers will play a testimonial match for their departing manager Walter Smith against Liverpool at Ibrox on Tuesday 3 March.

The Leeds defender Richard Jobson has joined Southend on a month's loan. Jobson, 34, has not played a first team game for Leeds since damaging knee ligaments in October, 1996.

The former Blackburn defender Chris Sulley has left his post as a youth development officer with the Ewood Park club "by mutual consent".

Bolton have agreed to allow their defender Greg Strong a third and final month's loan at Blackpool.

Phil Charnock, the Crewe midfielder, is out for six weeks after breaking his wrist in the 1-0 victory over West Bromwich last Saturday.
