JEAN ALESI, the French driver, was knocked unconscious yesterday when his Ferrari spun off the Mugello circuit in Florence at 125mph during a private practice sesssion. Alesi was rushed to the circuit's medical centre where he quickly regained consciousness. Doctors advised a few days' rest.

JOS VERSTAPPEN, the Dutch driver, is again likely to replace the injured J J Lehto in the Benetton team for the Pacific Grand Prix in Japan on 17 April.
