DARYL BEATTIE won his first 500cc Grand Prix at Hockenheim yesterday. The Australian held off the challenge of Kevin Scwantz, the championship leader, in a race marred a crash in which the Italian, Corrado Catalano, suffered head injuries. He was flown to hospital where he underwent brain surgery.
