Stephen Hendry bounced back as a winner yesterday, just two weeks after the worst defeat in his 13-year career. Hendry, drubbed 9-0 by Marcus Campbell in the first round of the UK Championship, captured the Rothmans Malta Grand Prix title in dramatic style, chalking up his 67th pro-tournament success by completing a 7-6 victory over Ken Doherty with a 69 break in the deciding frame. "I made a lot of mistakes and there's still plenty of room for improvement but it's great to lift a trophy again," he said.
ROTHMANS GRAND PRIX (Malta): Semi-finals: K Doherty (Ire) bt M Williams (Wal) 6-2; S Hendry (Sco) bt A Borg (Mal) 6-2. Final: Hendry bt Doherty 7-6.
