Sports Letter: City concerns

Sir: In his article on the BSkyB investment in Manchester City, David Conn (11 November) states that Manchester City fans, described as guardians of the "soul of the game", have nevertheless mostly welcomed the deal. However, a newspaper poll revealed only a narrow majority, 52 per cent to 48 per cent, in favour of the arrangement.

There is a consensus that, while the finance is required and welcome, practically any other source would have been preferable.

In fairness to City fans, a modest re-assessment of principles has occurred, understandable when the paramount concerns are maintaining the momentum of revival and pushing for the Premiership.
