Wild card wildness

From Mr Tony Smith

Sir: Isn't is about time that entry to Wimbledon was the same as for other Grand Slam tournaments - i.e. by world ranking or qualifying?

So many Brits without the required world ranking are given wild card entries every year. This is wrong, as it pushes out other young players around the world and lessens the standard of the world's greatest tennis event. Qualifying would also give our players much more fight, and, as has been proved in the past, they would play much better at Wimbledon after three hard matches on grass.

Yours faithfully,

TONY SMITH
