Damon Eastwood, last year's Formula One champion, is among the 35-strong entry in the men's race in the third round of the British Offshore Championships at Whistable, Kent, on Sunday, and a spectacular start is guaranteed. All the towing boats line up close to the beach and, on the starting signal, roar off together. The Formula One craft, with twin outboard engines, can haul the skier at speeds of 85mph if the sea is calm. The race, which covers 18 circuits of the bay off Whitstable, lasts 50 minutes plus one lap and will provide good spectating as the field begins to string out. The second race is a combined venture for women, veterans, juniors and dauphins (up to 15 years).

How to get there: Waterski Club, Beach Walk, Whitstable, Kent, is reached by A290 from A299 and M2. Watch the racing from Tankerton Slopes. The men's race is at 1pm, followed by the support race for women, veterans, junior and dauphins at 2.30pm.
