The National Trophy series reaches its completion on Sunday with the fourth race at Northallerton, North Yorkshire and a thrilling finish is in the making. Roger Hammond, the National Champion who leads the senior series, is racing in Switzerland. Had he competed at Northallerton, overall victory would have been a formality, barring accidents, but now three riders have good chances of taking the title. A win for Steve Douce, lying second, or Peter Stevenson, the Belgian-based rider in eighth, would give either the title. Douce could still win if he finishes second or third with no close rival in sight. Barrie Clarke, the Raleigh rider, needs to win, with Douce finishing no higher than third, in order to take the trophy.

How to get there: Race headquarters are at the Northallerton Leisure Centre. From the south turn off A1 at A168/A19 exit, signposted Teesside, and take A168 to Northallerton. Timetable: 11am juveniles; noon juniors, veterans, women; 2pm senior men.
