More than 140 leading male and female tetrathletes will be competing at the national championships this weekend. In the senior men's class, the national champion, Simon Robbie, will be attempting to win his third tetrathlon in a row, but will face stiff opposition from Britain's team bronze medallist in Seoul, Graham Brookhouse, who was also placed in Barcelona, and Richard Phelps, a medal-winning team-mate from Seoul who has recently won a one-day international pentathlon in Australia. In the women's class, the defending champion, Rachel Wilmott, will also be looking for a third successive title, but will have to contend with the national pentathlon champion, Kate Houston. Fencing, the first of the four disciplines, starts tomorrow at 9am, followed by the swimming at 6pm. On Sunday the run is at 9am. The shooting at noon completes the weekend's competition.

How to get there: Bracknell Sports Centre, Berkshire, is south of the town centre on the A322, four miles south of M3, junction 3. All the stages will be held at the Centre apart from the running, which will be held at Wellington College, Crowthorne. Admission and parking are free. (Tel: 0734-810111).
