The Devizes to Westminster, billed as the toughest canoe race in the world, is a 125-mile paddle on the Kennet and Avon Canal, joining the River Thames at Reading. Some of the 150 senior double crews, who attempt the course without stopping, will set out today just after 7am to catch the ebb tide on the Thames at Teddington at about 9pm. The remainder will depart up to 4pm to meet tomorrow's tide at 7.30am. The record is 15hr 34min. The single and junior entrants complete the race in four legs, stopping overnight at Newbury, Marlow and Ham, with the massed dash to Westminster on Monday morning.

Where to watch: Senior double crews: Devizes, Pewsey, Crofton (all Wiltshire), Hungerford, Newbury, Aldermaston, Reading (all Berkshire), Henley (Oxfordshire). Junior and Singles: Today: Devizes to Newbury, 34 miles (9.30am start-2pm first finishers); Tomorrow: Newbury to Longridge, below Marlow Lock, 36 miles (8am to 2pm); Sunday: Marlow to Ham, below Teddington lock, 38 miles (8am to 2pm); Monday: Ham to Festival Hall Pier, Westminster, 17 miles (9.30-11.30am).
