Peter Nicol, a Scottish qualifier, scored one of the best wins of his career when he beat the world No 12, Hansi Wiens, of Germany, 15-13, 13-15, 17-15, 15-11 in the first round of the Qatar International, writes James Leigh from Doha. One of England's hopes for the world team championships in a fortnight, Simon Parke, played four hard games to beat his compatriot Mark Cairns 15-10, 11-15, 15-11, 15-7. Jahangir Khan's comeback after nine months away from tournament play produced a tense but efficient performance as he beat Paul Lord 15-11, 15-10, 15-6.
